The Puzzle People: Memoirs of a Transplant Surgeon by Thomas E. Starzl, MD. University of Pittsburgh Press, Pittsburgh and London, © 1992. Dr. Starzl is one of the pioneers in the field of transplantation. This autobiography documents both his life and the history of transplantation. Dr. Starzl also uses the book as a vehicle for stating his positions on many hotly debated issues including the costs of transplant operations and the system for selecting organ recipients.
