Each and every one of us is unique. We all come in different forms, sizes and we all have different personalities. Some of us have able and healthy bodies and some may not but that doesn’t mean we are not created perfectly. Some of us may have medical problems but that doesn’t make one less perfect.

Obesity is the condition of having excess body fat. However, this is not to be mistaken with being overweight. Obesity can also be defined as having a Body Mass Index (BMI) of at least 30. BMI is a system used to measure obesity. Another method can be determining waist circumference.

For females, having a waist circumference of 35 is categorized as unhealthy. For male, 40 is categorized as unhealthy. Obesity can cause over 30 medical conditions that is why one needs to be aware of the risks brought about by Obesity. Prevention from the risks can be done however it requires motivation and drive to change.

There are plenty of health problems caused by obesity. These are but some of them:

Heart Disease and Stroke

Having extreme excess fat makes you highly prone of having a cardiovascular disease or stroke. This is caused by the high cholesterol stored in the body.

Gallbladder Disease

Gallbladder disease and gallstones are common to overweight people. Gallstones are small and hard mass formed unnaturally in the gallbladder or bile ducts from cholesterol, calcium salts and bile pigments. It can cause pain and damage to the bile duct.

Gout

Gout is an ailment with the joints. It is common in overweight people. It occurs when a person has too much uric acid in the blood. The excess uric acid can form crystals that deposit in the joints. The more a person weighs increases the chances of having gout.

Social Effects of Obesity

Obesity making someone look unhealthy can cause them emotional damage especially in children. The psychological and emotional stigma can be just as damaging as the physical consequences of being overweight. There are of course overweight people who feel happy and secure about themselves but in general obese people have lesser self-esteem than those that have a normal weight.

Overheavy people are also sometimes discriminated being judged only based on their weight. Sometimes, the lack of confidence affects them so much that they become depressed. If you are overweight, find the drive and motivation to change. If you are not, help overheavy people by giving them encouragement to be healthier.
